Countertops for Easton farmhouses and colonials

Easton is a town of older farmhouses, center-hall colonials and newer homes on large wooded lots, and its kitchens usually suit stone that looks at home in an older house. Soapstone and honed marble age along with the house. Granite stands up to a kitchen that works hard every day. Quartzite gives you the look of marble without the etching.

The same slabs carry through the rest of the house: mudroom and laundry tops, window sills, hearths and powder room vanities. Smaller pieces can often come from our remnant rack, cut from offcuts of full slabs.

Choosing stone for an Easton kitchen

Start with how the kitchen gets used. Soapstone is the classic farmhouse counter: it never needs sealing, acids don't etch it, and a hot pan won't hurt it. It is soft, so it scratches, and most scratches disappear with a little mineral oil. Marble gives you the brightest white, but it etches, so for a working kitchen we recommend a honed finish. Granite and quartzite take the most abuse of any natural stone, and quartz is the no-maintenance choice indoors.

If your house is on a well and the water is hard, mineral spots around the sink show most on dark, polished stone. A honed or leathered finish hides them better. Wipe them off with a pH-neutral stone cleaner, not an acidic descaler, which can etch marble. Our stone care guide covers each material.

Recent work in Easton

A recent Easton job: a soapstone farmhouse kitchen with perimeter counters, a matching window sill and an integral soapstone sink, all cut from Alberene soapstone in our Bridgeport shop. The project page has the full photo set, with the stone, edge and finish.

Nearby, we fabricated a Calacatta Viola powder room vanity in Monroe and an Absolute Black granite island in Trumbull. More in our projects.

How it works

Book a visit to the yard and choose from full slabs rather than sample chips. Once your cabinets are set, we digitally template the kitchen, cut and finish every piece in our Bridgeport shop, and our own crew brings it up to Easton and installs it. Template to install is typically one to two weeks.

From choosing your slab, the whole job usually takes four to six weeks, and most of that is the cabinet schedule. Most kitchens install in a single day.

Start with the slab

Easton countertop questions

Do you install countertops in Easton? Yes. We fabricate in our Bridgeport shop and install with our own crew in Easton and the neighboring towns, including Fairfield, Trumbull and Monroe.

Does soapstone need sealing? No. Soapstone is dense and non-porous, so it doesn't need a sealer and acids won't etch it. Oiling it with mineral oil is optional; it darkens the stone evenly and hides light scratches.

What should I bring to the slab yard? Your cabinet plan or rough dimensions, a few photos of the room, and a cabinet door or paint sample if you have one. That lets us show you slabs that suit the space.
