Fireplaces · Fabricated in our Bridgeport shop
A fireplace surround is the one piece of stone people see from across the room. CMG Stone fabricates surrounds, hearths and full-height fireplace walls in marble, quartzite, granite and soapstone, cut in our Bridgeport shop and installed by our own crew.

Fireplace stone usually takes one of three forms: a slim surround framing the firebox, a hearth at floor level, or a full-height wall of slab from floor to ceiling. Each is templated on site and cut in our shop to fit the actual opening, walls and returns.
Bookmatching is the showpiece. Two slabs cut one after the other from the same block are opened like a book, so the veining mirrors across the center line. Finding a true sequential pair is often harder than the fabrication, which is why we look at slabs together with you at the yard.

Natural stone handles a fireplace well. Each one brings something different.
The classic surround, from quiet Carrara to bold Statuario.
Tough enough for a hearth that takes logs and fireplace tools.
A marble look with granite-like toughness on the hearth.
Long used around wood stoves because it holds heat and releases it slowly.
Engineered quartz is a different story: its resin doesn't tolerate high heat, so it's a poor choice right against a firebox. Doing more than one room? Read our guide to coordinating stone across the kitchen, bath and fireplace.
A floor-to-ceiling surround in sequential Statuario slabs, opened like a book so the veining mirrors across the firebox, with a matching hearth.

For bookmatching, we look for a sequential pair together with you at the yard.
Once the firebox or insert and the wall are ready, we template the real opening.
We center the pattern on the firebox, then cut the surround, returns and hearth in our shop.
Typically one to two weeks after templating, installed by our own crew.
See full slabs, not sample chips. Bring your cabinet plan or rough dimensions and a few photos of the room, and we'll show you stone that suits the space.
Book a slab-yard visitGet an estimateIf you want the fireplace to match your kitchen stone, choose both on the same yard visit.
Two sequential slabs are opened like a book and installed side by side, so the veining on one mirrors the other. Set on the center line of the firebox, the pattern reads as symmetrical from across the room.
Often, yes. Hearths are small enough that a remnant can work, which is a good way to use a premium stone on a smaller piece. See our remnants page.
Yes, if the slab allows. Choose both on the same yard visit and we'll lay out each piece on the slab.
