Bright white Italian marble with bold gold and gray veining. The most requested marble in our kitchens, and the one that depends most on slab layout.

Calacatta is the stone most clients picture when they say marble: a bright, cool white ground with thick gold and warm gray veins that run in bold diagonal movements. It is quarried in much smaller volumes than Carrara, and no two slabs look alike, so it is chosen and reserved slab by slab instead of ordered by the square foot.
Because the veining is large, layout matters more here than with almost any other stone. We photograph the slab, plan each cut around the vein movement, and often bookmatch adjoining pieces so the pattern mirrors across the seam. You approve that layout before anything is cut.
See it in our Westport kitchen with a full-height Calacatta backsplash and our Calacatta Gold double vanity in Fairfield.
Calacatta is a calcite marble, so it reacts with acid. Lemon juice, wine, vinegar and some cleaners will etch the surface and leave a dull mark where the polish has been removed. Etching is not a stain, and sealing does not prevent it.
A honed finish hides etching far better than a polished one, and it is what we usually recommend for a working kitchen. Seal at installation and about once a year after that, clean with pH-neutral products, and expect a patina over time.
Every top is templated, laid out and cut in our Bridgeport shop and installed by our own crew. We photograph your slab, place the template over the photo, and you approve where the veins and seams fall before anything is cut. Installation is usually one to two weeks after templating. Natural stone changes from slab to slab, even within one name. Come to our Bridgeport yard, choose the actual slabs for your job, and approve the layout before we cut.
